Mayor Funkhouser to help Kansas City kick off a year of prosperity, health
The Chinese New Year begins the Year of the Rabbit, traditionally associated with prosperity, health and fortune. “The new year brings with it new potential for our community,” Mayor Funkhouser said. “We know from the wisdom of generations, that all the flowers of all of the tomorrows are in the seeds of today. May we all become successful gardeners this year.”

Sun, originally from Anhui province in China, studied at the Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. In 2001 he won the Liederkranz Wagner Competition in New York, and in 2002 he sang five operas with the Washington Opera at Kennedy Center under the direction of Placido Domingo. Sun will perform “Toreador” from “Carmen” and “Non piu andrai” from “Marriage of Figaro” and a song from “Savage Land.” In “Carmen”, Sun will be accompanied by exquisite Flamenco dancers from Ole’ Music and Dance of Spain.
